A story spanning nearly
40 years...
The history of Explore California Outdoors began in 1988 when a university biology student discovered commercial whitewater rafting in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada which lead to a career guiding outdoor adventures spanning the next 4 decades.
In 2001, after pursuing a master’s degree in outdoor recreation, Mark founded Alaska Outdoors, a camping and rafting tour company in Alaska that would be named One of the Best Adventure Tour Companies on Earth by National Geographic Adventures.
After 24 years operating Alaska Outdoors in the summer and living in Northern California the rest of the year, Mark has moved his business to California full time, where he is dedicated to expanding access to outdoor activities in Northern California by offering affordable, expertly managed outdoor trips.
