Our Focus on Sustainability

Responsible outdoor recreation.

The outdoor recreation landscape has grown and changed considerably over the years. Gone are the days of mostly empty campgrounds and trails. These days we find full campgrounds, crowded hiking trails, and substantial physical impact to the landscapes that folks are flocking to experience.

We have directly observed these impacts over many years and have, since the beginnings of our company, been on the leading edge of conscientious, sustainable travel. We believe that our public lands belong to future generations and it is our responsibility to care for them.

Sustainability Practices

We believe that the following actions are smart and important business practices and have incorporated them into our business model. We do the best we can to limit our impacts while still maintaining a viable business.

Leave No Trace- All of our trips follow Leave No Trace guidelines designed to minimize our impacts to the areas that we visit.

1. Plan ahead and prepare

2.Travel and camp on durable surfaces

3.Dispose of waste properly

4. Leave what you find

5. Minimize campfire impacts

6. Respect wildlife

7. Be considerate of others

Minimize the use of excess packaging- We try to purchase products that minimize packaging, especially plastics, and utilize recycled content, both for our trips and in the daily operations of the business.

Recycling- We recycle all recyclable materials both on our trips and during the daily operations of our business.

Using locally produced products whenever available- Including locally grown organic produce, thus supporting farmers in the region and reducing the amount of produce that we import from outside of the area.

Using U.S. based equipment manufacturers when feasible- Our trips are gear intensive. We use a lot of it. Over and over again. We prioritize using equipment that lasts a long time AND is designed and sold by US companies.

Supporting small, locally owned and operated businesses- Both in our hometown and in the small communities in which we operate we seek out and support small, family operated businesses for our purchases.

Donate- We have a long history of donating to organizations that support protected lands through conservation and education.
